07.08.08 Reykjavik – Golden circle (Þingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss)
by Garik and Lena
- We had a rain at night, the bottom of the tent somehow got wet a bit, we realized that our sleeping bags are not as warm as we thought and one of our mattresses can not hold the air inside, the nozzle is broken…
- We decided to walk to BSI station from the camp site, instead of taking the bus #14 which is costs 560 Kr. for two persons. There we took the RE (CD-Guide) tour bus to see the ‘Golden Circle’, not before we bought ourselves two sandwiches (samlokas) and a small bottle of water, later we discovered – on the label of the bottle was said “Imported from Iceland”… :)
- All the way to our first stop it was rainy, and the bus driver (she) was talking on her cellphone. When we got out at Þingvellir we had only 10 minutes to take shots and back to the bus, we didn’t see much there, maybe a bit of the landscape. Our second stop was in Geysir and the timing was perfect, the rain stopped and the sun was shining through the sky. Definitely, the say that if you wait 5 minutes, the weather will change is not accurate, we had to wait much longer. There, we had more time to take shots, walk around the mud pots and miss Geysir’s eruption of the day. (Since the earthquake in May this year the old Geysir erupts about three – four times a day). We did saw Strokkur, the small geysir which erupts every 10-15 minutes and reaches high of 25-30 meters.
- When we came to Gullfoss waterfall the rain started again, no rainbow for us today we understood immediately! Still the waterfall is very impressive and you can feel it when you stand very close to it.
- We still don’t understand what CD-Guide is… If someone does, please let us know, we actually wanted to send an email to RE, asking them what makes scheduled bus route to CD-Guide bus?…
- Also we were amazed by the sheep here, they are everywhere and always in groups of three or a product of three (six, nine, etc). All they do is eat and sleep.
